Guideline for Authors

Contributions should be submitted as word document using a unicode font (for example Arial Unicode, Semiramis Unicode or Gentium Unicode) and as pdf file. Footnotes should be numbered consecutively. In references to books and journals, the use of italics and inverted commas should be avoided. References should indicate the author’s name, the title, the name of the monograph series or journal and the place of publication (in the case of books). When referring to journals, the page numbering of the whole article and the number of the page containing the quotation should be stated:

M. David, Die Adoption im altbabylonischen Recht, LRWS 23, Leipzig 1927.

O. Eißfeldt, Sohnespflichten im Alten Orient, Syria 43, 1966, (39 – 47), 42.

In the case of monographs, the publisher’s name can be added to the year of publication. If a book or journal is quoted more than once, its title should be referred to in full only in the first instance, thereafter simply by means of the author’s name, a short reference to the title, an indication of where the work was first mentioned and a page reference to the quote:

O. Eißfeldt, Sohnespflicht (s.o. Anm. 1) 42.

Titles of monograph series and journals should be abbreviated according to S. M. Schwertner, Internationales Abkürzungsverzeichnis für Theologie und Grenzgebiete, Berlin 21994, or, if they are not included there, according to the list of abbreviations in R. Borger, Handbuch der Keilschriftliteratur I, Berlin 1967. Regarding transcriptions from the Hebrew, the system of transcriptions employed by the Zeitschrift für die alttestamentliche Wissenschaft (ZAW) should be used.
